Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Baculovirus are effective and safe bioinsecticides, but the production costs are high compared with chemicals; and insecticidal activity is easily lost with exposure to solar radiation exposure. Using virus virions (non-occluded virus) instead of the natural-occluded virus might reduce the production costs. Polyhedra occlusion protect the insecticidal activity of virions from detrimental effects of drying and solar radiation. We found that sucrose might protect the insecticidal activity of virions as well. In the future, knowledge about protecting non-occluded virions with specific ingredients and proceeding conditions will allow the use of virions-based bioinsecticides, at lower production cost and higher field efficacy
