Research Project: Assessment of Slow Release Herbicide Retention Under Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation

Location: Citrus and Other Subtropical Products Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-046-027-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 22, 2025
End Date: Jun 1, 2029

Objective:
The objective of the research agreement is to quantify the retention or degredation of the herbicides halosulfuron methyl and sulfentrazone applied in combination with anaerobic soil disinfestation to improve weed control.

Approach:
Field trials are conducted in which halosulfuron methyl is applied at two rates or through a slow-release herbicide plastic, and sulfentrazone at the label rate for tomatoes, combined with a fertilizer-only control or anaerobic soil disinfestation. Samples are collected prior to application and at set intervals during treatment and during the crop production cycles.
