Research Project: Investigation of Verticillium Nonalfalfae as a Potential Bioherbicide for the Invasive Weed Ailanthus Altissima

Location: Citrus and Other Subtropical Products Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-046-008-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2021
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
The objective of this research is to determine the host range of the potential biological control agent for tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima), Verticillium nonalfalfae.

Approach:
A series of greenhouse trials will be conducted to establish the ability of Verticillium nonalfalfae to infect important crop plants. Trials will be replicated and repeated and fungi isolated from infected plants will be identified morphologically and through limited sequencing.
