Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University

B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University

Evan Wegener received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University where he studied supported intermetallic compound catalysts and developed structure-function relationships for their use in shale gas conversion. He then spent time as a postdoctoral appointee in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division at Argonne National Laboratory where his work focused on using X-ray spectroscopy to characterize heterogeneous catalysts for a range of applications including biomass conversion and hydrogen fuel cells. Dr. Wegener joined USDA-ARS at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (NCAUR) in 2021 where his research focuses on the development of catalytic materials and processes for the conversion of biomass derived substrates to chemicals and fuels. Particular interests include the design of multi-functional catalysts and in situ/operando materials characterization using synchrotron radiation.
