Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory remains committed to research that supports the poultry industry. In the last year we have broken ground for the new laboratory buildings with an expectation of the buildings being completed by 2022. A new research leader was selected for the Endemic research unit and Avian Disease Oncology Laboratory. Research on avian influenza continues with efforts to improve the control of avian influenza, including looking at the disposal and cleanup after an outbreak. Studies looking at heat inactivation are ongoing as a cost effective approach. Vaccines are also a priority research area for avian influenza virus and Newcastle disease viruses.
