Citation: Fillmer, K., Adkins, S.T., Pongam, P., D'Elia, T. 2015. Complete genome sequence of Tomato mosaic virus isolated from jasmine in the United States. Genome Announcements. 3(4):e00706-15. doi: 10.1128/genomeA.00706-15.
Interpretive Summary: The full genome of Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) isolated from jasmine in the U.S. is presented. First reported from jasmine in Florida in 1999, ToMV has been continuously observed in jasmine since that time. Several partial sequences of ToMV are publicly available and suggest that ToMV may be more widespread in ornamentals than currently reported. The ToMV full genome sequence presented will enable further ecological and epidemiological studies, and also the development of additional diagnostic tests.
Technical Abstract: Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV) was first identified in jasmine in the U.S. in Florida in 1999. This report provides the first full genome sequence of a ToMV isolate from jasmine. The full genome sequence of this virus will enable research scientists to develop additional specific diagnostic tests for ToMV. The sequence will also facilitate additional surveys, and further ecological and epidemiological studies of this virus, by regulatory scientists.
