Hydration characteristics of switchgrass, big bluestem, and bromegrass. Meeting Abstract. RRV12101. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Biomass storage affects its quality and processing, which in turn influences the biomass final utilization applications. Moisture status in biomass is the most influential factor of biomass storage, and hydration kinetics controls the dynamic moisture condition of the biomass. Hydration characteristics of switchgrass, big bluestem, and bromegrass are studied to determine the moisture absorption kinetics. Hydration characteristics were conducted at temperatures of 20C, 40C, and 60C and a fixed relative humidity of 95% using an environment control chamber. Hydration kinetics molding and statistical multiple regression analyzed the experimental hydration characteristics of the selected biomass samples in absorption mode. The results are compared to determine the differences among the selected biomass and related feedstocks or agricultural materials reported. |
