Their mixture produces incombustible non-toxic gases which can dilute the concentration of the oxygen near the flame, and the charred layers become protective barriers to the material against flame and heat. The aim of this work was to synthesize and characterize the mono- or di-substituded phosphonates of cyanuric chloride. The synthesis was done in two steps with an overall yield of 71% beginning with dimethyl phosphite. Full structural characterizations of new compound were provided by nuclear magnetic resonance techniques and elemental analysis. Data of treated cotton fabrics for thermal analyses, limiting oxygen indices, and flammability test will be also presented. |
