Oat Newsletter. vol 46. Available at: http://wheat.pw.usda.gov/ggpages/oatnewsletter/v46/-Doehlert Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This report was originally constructed to provide oat quality information for the North Dakota oat-breeding project and is being distributed because of a general interest among oat workers in the composition and quality characteristics of oat cultivars commonly grown and sold for milling purposes. This report provides information on grain yield, test weight, groat percentage, mean whole oat kernel mass, mean groat mass, and groat protein, fat and beta-glucan concentrations in a total of 27 different oat cultivars adapted to culture in the northern plains region of the United States. Hull color and whole oat lengths and widths as determined by digital image analysis are also presented, along with values calculated for whole oat density and oat size uniformity. This information may be useful to commercial ventures interested in oat cultivars with specific compositional or size characteristics. |
