Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: For many years, the Wheat Quality Council has made comparative analyses of US wheat cultivars, which are evaluated in terms of milling and baking performance. From these results and other agronomic traits, cultivars are selected for commercial release. The same varietal quality analyses are needed from overseas users of US wheat because an average of 50% of US production is exported. Through the Overseas Varietal Analysis (OVA) program, information on wheat/flour quality from overseas users will be shared with US industry on a cultivar specific basis. Wheat samples will be submitted by cultivar name from respective wheat class regions of the US. Cultivars will be collected on an export region basis. Samples will be milled and distributed to overseas cooperators through arrangements made by US Wheat Associates (USW) foreign Offices (FOs). Cooperators will analyze flour samples for dough processing , end use performance, and overall acceptability, and the data will be compiled and distributed to US producers, breeders, quality laboratories, the grain trade, and participating overseas cooperators. Some overseas cooperators may wish to receive whole wheat to determine milling performance as well.
