Research Project: Genetic Targets to Enhance Postharvest Quality and Storability in Potato

Location: Potato, Pulse and Small Grains Quality Research

Project Number: 3060-30600-003-023-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2026
End Date: Jul 31, 2028

Objective:
The main objective of this research is to investigate the genetic factors and underlying molecular mechanisms regulating postharvest quality traits (e.g., tuber dormancy, sprouting, wound healing, physiological aging, and heat-stress induced disorders) to identify actionable targets, and deliver new tools and strategies for sustainable and affordable potato production.

Approach:
Experiments will be conducted in a multi-institutional research setting, and will utilize all essential methods, including genetics, biochemical, microscopic, and multi-omics approach to investigate these physiological processes at molecular level to determine actionable targets for manipulating these processes for sustainable and affordable potato production and storage.
