Research Project: Digital Agriculture Translation Pipelines and National Proving Grounds

Location: Potato, Pulse and Small Grains Quality Research

Project Number: 0500-00119-001-001-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 30, 2026
End Date: Mar 29, 2030

Objective:
The overarching goal of this collaboration is to build an integrated digital agriculture pipeline that translates stakeholder-defined priorities into deployable, vision-based AI tools for regionally important crops, and establish a national proving ground network to enable standardized, data-driven evaluation and benchmarking of agricultural technologies. Objective 1. Establish Stakeholder-Driven Phenotyping Priorities Objective 2. Generate Foundational Digital Assets for Priority Cropping Systems Objective 3. Develop and Validate Computer Vision Models Objective 4. Deploy Models to Support Research and Field Applications Objective 5. Establish and Support the National Agricultural Proving Ground Network (NPG-Ag)

Approach:
This effort will implement a coordinated, multi-year strategy that integrates stakeholder engagement, data generation, model development, deployment, and validation into a unified digital agriculture pipeline.
