Location: Vegetable Crops Research
Project Number: 5090-21220-007-043-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 23, 2025
End Date: Sep 22, 2026
Objective:
Operate research station for production research that will develop cranberry
germplasm and new production practices that contribute to improved cranberry yield, quality, reduced inputs to manage cranberry pests, diseases, nutrient and water conservation.
Approach:
Conduct research, under field conditions reflecting industry standards, to maintain and evaluate diverse cranberry germplasm and to evaluate alternative cranberry production practices that improve water conservation, decrease plant diseases, and
pests. Field evaluation will include performance trials of breeding stocks,
pesticide, cultural and biological control trials to evaluate the efficacy of
established and novel practices for control insect pests and diseases; herbicide
trials to evaluate weed control measures; frost and heat tolerance, winter
hardiness trials to evaluate abiotic stress resilience; hydrological monitoring and management trials to develop optimal water conservation and management approaches; plant monitoring and management to assess nutrient use of plants to develop optimal nutrient management practices. Post-harvest crop yield and quality will be evaluated cooperatively. Data results from research will be used to develop approaches for improved production practices.
