Research Project: Alternatives to Soil Fumigants for Managing Root-knot Nematode Damage in Carrots

Location: Vegetable Crops Research

Project Number: 5090-21000-073-076-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2022
End Date: Jun 30, 2027

Objective:
To develop and evaluate alternatives for fumigant nematicides used in carrots to control nematodes.

Approach:
Evaluate non-fumigant based nematode management strategies to minimize damage in carrots associated with root-knot nematodes under field trial conditions (2 years). These management strategies will include the use of soil and/or seed applied synthetic and biological products, and the use of advanced carrot breeding lines with resistance to root-knot nematodes. All field trials will have sufficient replications and will include appropriate controls to allow detection of treatment effects at the 95% confidence limit through statistical analysis of the data.
