Cooperative Program with ASU Students_Partnering |
This program is available to Albany State University students ONLY.
The NPRL and Albany State University are helping students obtain "real world" laboratory experience in various disciplines, while the NPRL receives assistance in conducting our research.
Below are the current positions available:
1. PROJECT - Microbiology / Plant Physiology
Title | Comparison of efficiency of Agrobacterium strains in the genetic transformation of peanut
Description | Perform peanut transformation with selectable markers, follow regeneration steps, determine recovery of transformants
Estimated Total Time | 2-3 months
Beginning Date | flexible, prefer starting within 2-3 months
Background Requirements | Ideal but not required to know sterile techniques and plant physiology
Posting Date | October 17, 2011 |
2. PROJECT - Statistics / Biology
Project | Physiological responses of cotton quality parameters to environmental variables
Description | Compile datasets consisting of weather, soil, management, inputs and cotton quality paramenters, and conduct preliminary analysis on the compiled datasets
Estimated Total Time | 4-6 weeks
Beginning Date | 2-3 weeks
Background Requirements | Knowledge of statistical principles and software. Multivariate analysis an prinipal components is a plus
Posting Date | October 17, 2011 |
3. PROJECT - Microbiology / Molecular Biology
Project | Identification of bacterial isolates by sequencing of 16S ribosomal RNA DNA
Description | DNA isolation, PCR amplification/purification, send for sequencing, perform BLAST analysis of the results
Estimated Total Time | 6-8 weeks
Beginning Date | ASAP | |
Background Requirements | - attention to detail - preferable, the candidate should have some experience in molecular biology
Posting Date | October 17, 2011 |
4. PROJECT - Microbiology / Molecular Biology
Project | Comparison of DNA sequences of 4 genes across 10 Aspergillus flavus isolates
Description | PCR amplification, gel purification, cloning, plasmid extractions, analysis of DNA sequencing results
Estimated Total Time | 4-6 weeks
Beginning Date | ASAP | |
Background Requirements | - meticulous work - ideal, but not required: understanding of PCR and DNA sequence analysis
Posting Date | October 17, 2011 |
