Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Journal of the Soil and Water Conservation Society is a very diverse journal. To maintain this diversity, and to provide for needs in the next millennia, SWCS must attract the best scientists in natural resources research. In the coming decades, world population will grow by 3 billion people, about the same number as world population increased by in the last half of the 20th century. To meet the needs of the earth's population, agricultural production must increase dramatically. There will be several major technological revolutions that will help meet these needs, and SWCS and the Journal must be important in bringing the fruits of these revolutions to providing the natural resource base that will supply the populations needs. To meet the challenges in the next millenia, SWCS and the Journal must provide opportunities for a diverse mixture of scientists to participate in setting the agenda for the society and the journal and a focus must be on international activities.
