Interpretive Summary: Three sorghum lines (GT-IR6, GT-IR7 and GT-IR8) with resistance to leaf and head feeding insects were released by the USDA-ARS, Tifton, GA and are now being registered in Crop Science. The lines are shorter earlier, and have more vigor than previous releases. GT-IR6 and GT-IR7 have brown seeds and those of GT-IR8 are white. Small amounts of seed are available upon request from Neil Widstrom, P. O. Box 748, Tifton, GA.

Technical Abstract: Three sorghum lines (GT-IR6, GT-IR7, and GT-IR8) released in 1997 were submitted to Crop Science for registration. They were developed at the Insect Biology and Population Management Research Laboratory at Tifton, GA. They were developed primarily for resistance to leaf and panicle feeding insects, but were also subjected to ten or more cycles of selection for shorter plant height, earlier maturity, more uniform seed, and greater plant vigor than previous releases from this laboratory. All are R lines and have a testa. GT-IR6 and GT-IR7 are brown seeded, while GT-IR8 is white. Breader's seed may be obtained from the author.
