In this review we summarize the information on the known genes of lentil and their locations in the genome in the form of a gene map. That map includes 76 loci in 10 linkage groups. This map should form the basis of further studies of the lentil genome and provide a ameans of gene transfer through marker assisted selection. Technical Abstract: Genetic linkages between morphological and molecular markers previously reported have been reviewed for purpose of establishing a preliminary linkage map for lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.). The map includes 7 morphological, 25 isozyme, 38 RFLP and 6 other loci. The map is arranged in order to take into account the reported homology of linkage groups among the Vicieae species. There are currently ten recognized linkage groups, which should eventually reduce to seven as mapping continues. |
