Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Bovine leptospirosis: Leptospirosis is a re-emerging zoonotic disease affecting humans, livestock, and companion animals. In this online CE seminar, participants will explore the causative agent of leptospirosis with discussion surrounding the different pathogenic species and serovars of Leptospira, routes of transmission, current diagnostic methods, and considerations for mitigation of infection. Learning objectives: Following completion of this CE seminar, participants should be able to: A. Demonstrate knowledge regarding the basic characteristics of pathogenic Leptospira species and their transmission to infect animal and humans, B. Demonstrate knowledge regarding clinical disease in cattle, currently available laboratory diagnostic tools, and their limitations, D. Show awareness of considerations to mitigate disease including appropriate protection measures for people in contact with infected animals, E. Demonstrate awareness of current research directions.
