Registration of ND VitPro hard red spring wheat. Journal of Plant Registrations. http://doi.org/10.1002/plr2.20239. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1002/plr2.20239 Interpretive Summary: Growers are constantly trying to increase profits by using varieties that improve on yield, quality, and disease and pest resistance. NDVitPro is a wheat variety that was developed and released to growers due to its improved straw strength which decreases lodging, and strong disease resistance to stem rust, leaf rust and Fusarium head blight (wheat head scab). NDVitPro has high end-use quality, including high vitreous kernal percentage for improved bread making and high grain protein for nutrition. Wheat farmers can grow NDVitPro to improve on profitability and also provide a high quality product to consumers. Technical Abstract: ‘ND VitPro’ (Reg. No. CV-XXXX, PI 682660) is a hard-red spring wheat (HRSW) developed at North Dakota State University (NDSU) and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (NDAES) in 2017. It was tested as experimental line ND825 and released because of improved straw strength, as well as strong disease resistance and end-use quality. ND VitPro is moderately resistant to stem rust (Puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici), leaf rust (Puccinia triticina), and Fusarium head blight caused by (Fusarium graminearum). The name ‘ND VitPro’ was chosen due to the high vitreous kernel percentage and grain protein. ‘ND VitPro’ was selected from the cross ND754/ND735//Glenn. ND754 is an unreleased experimental HRSW line with the pedigree (ND2849/ND721). ND735 was an unreleased experimental HRSW line with the pedigree. |
