Interpretive Summary: Plant growth promoting microorganisms (PGPM) can be used as biofertilizers or biocontrol agents (BCA) to reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural systems including production of perennial crops. The efficiency of these BCA depends not only on the ability of the microorganism to promote plant growth but also on their ability to establish symbiosis with the plant and the stability of the introduced microbes in host-plant tissue over extended growth periods. The sequencing dataset is accompanied by manuscript titled “Response of plant associated microbiome to plant-root colonization by exogenous bacterial endophyte in perennial crops” submitted to Frontiers in Microbiology on January 27th 2022. The dataset is comprised of DNA sequences of a specific region of bacterial DNA (16S rRNA) that is used to identify different species of bacteria and estimate the relative abundance of each species in different samples. This information is critical for identifying bacteria that are specifically associated with plants and distinguishing these bacteria from other species that are present in soil.

Technical Abstract: The sequencing dataset is a part of manuscript titled “Response of plant associated microbiome to plant-root colonization by exogenous bacterial endophyte in perennial crops” by Yurgel et al., submitted to Frontiers in Microbiology on January 27th 2022. The deposition of this data in a public, community-supported repository is a required step for publication of the manuscript.
