Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Due to its environmentally benign character, supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is considered in green chemistry as a substitute for organic solvents in chemical reactions. In this poster, an innovative approach for preparation of flame retardant woven and nonwoven fabrics were obtained by utilizing supercritical carbon dioxide with minimum ammount of co-solvent. Our attempts at flame retardant cotton fabrics treated with low cost inorganic formulations (urea, sodium phosphate and diammonium phosphate) and a new piperazine derivatives(tetraethyl piperazine-1,4-diyldiphosphonate(PDP) and tetramethyl piperazine-1,4-diyldiphosphonothioate(PDPT))in scCO2 were done successfully. The evidence of flame retardant chemical penetrations on cotton fabrics was confirmed by Fourier transfer infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), elemental analysis(EA)and Scanning electron microscope(SEM), and most of treated cotton fabrics with PDP and PDPT were evaluated following flammability tests: methenamine pill test, limiting oxygen index (LOI, ASTM D2863-00), 45 degree angle flame test (clothing textiles test -- ASTM D1230; 16 CFR 1610), and vertical flame test (ASTM D6413-99; 16 CFR 1615, 1616). Finally, thermal properties will be performed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)and micro cone calorimeter(MCC). |
