Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Labeling investigations along with metabolic flux analysis have enabled quantification of important cellular phenotypes. These descriptions have documented uses of enzymes in unique ways and characterized the contributions of pathways to oil, protein and carbohydrate compositions in seeds. The different descriptions that result from environmental and/or genotypical perturbations provide insight into mechanisms that control metabolism and therefore can aid our understanding as well as attempts at metabolic engineering. Here we present labeling and flux data on our recent studies in soybean embryo metabolism during seed filling including environmental perturbations that alter composition and their implications for primary metabolism.
