Field evaluation of fungicides in controlling ascochyta blight of chickpea, 2003. Fungicide and Nematocide Tests. 59:FC071. Available: http://www.apsnet.org/online/FNtests/vol59/top.htm Interpretive Summary: Field evaluation of five fungicides showed that the fungicides can reduce disease severity and increase yield of chickpea under moderate disease pressure of Ascochyta blight. However, under low disease pressure, the effectiveness of these fungicides are not significant. Fungicides should be judicially applied in practice in order to maintain and increase profitability of chickpea production. Technical Abstract: Ascochyta blight is a persistent problem in chickpea production in the Palouse region of northern Idaho and eastern Washington. Fungicide sprays have been a traditional practice in managing the disease. Experiments were carried out in the field to evaluate five commercial fungicides (Bravo, Headline, Quadris, Endura and Pristine) for their effectiveness againt Ascochyta blight. All fungicide applications increased yield of the cultivars Spanish White and Dwelley when the disease pressure was moderate at the Pullman location. However, at low disease pressure at the Genesee location, the effects of fungicides on either disease severity or the yield were negligible. |
