Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The registration of transgenic corn with resistance to corn rootworm larval feeding offers a viable alternative to insecticides for managing the most economically important insect pests of corn. Maintaining corn rootworm susceptibility to transgenic crops (resistance management) is in the interest of growers, the Environmental Protection Agency, and industry, but requires an understanding of corn rootworm biology that does not currently exist. For this study, eight large emergence cages (3m x 3m) and two replications each of MON 863 and an isoline corn at each of two egg infestation levels were employed. The whole experiment was also duplicated in three Missouri environments. Results and experiments from progeny of these adults will be discussed in terms of selection intensity of MON 863 and resistance management.
