Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This fact sheet discusses how swine producers can use chemical treatment with aluminum chloride to reduce P losses from swine manure applications. In brief, the mode of action, and the appropriate uses of liquid aluminum chloride in swine manure are discussed. A brief discussion of potential costs involved in adopting this technology is also included. This fact sheet will be included with many others that will be used to address best management practices to reduce P losses to surface waters. Through a national distribution of this collection of fact sheets, the impact of this work will be to educate producers, state and local extension personnel and other technical service providers on the impact of using aluminum chloride to reduce potential pollution from swine manure applications. |
