Citation: Snodgrass, G.L., Scott, W.P., Adams, D.A. 2004. Mortality of tarnished plant bugs to various insecticides in spray table bioassays following field application of orthene, 2001. Arthropod Management Tests. Interpretive Summary: Currently registered insecticides were evaluated in laboratory bioassays for toxicity to tarnished plant bugs collected at 48h following a field application of Orthene. Vydate, Orthene, Regent, Centric, Provado, and Decis was applied to cotton terminals at 0.33, 0.50, 0.05, 0.047, 0.047, and 0.02 lb (AI)/acre respectively. Mortality at 24h and 48h in treatments of Vydate, Orthene, and Regent were equally as effective in the bioassay. There was no difference in treatments of Centric, Provado, and Decis at 24h. At 48h mortality with Decis was less than found with Centric and Provado.
Technical Abstract: The efficacy of various insecticides on mortality of the tarnished plant bug collected at 48h following a field application of Orthene at 0.50 lb (AI)/acre were evaluated in laboratory bioassays. Treatments were Vydate, Orthene, Regent, Centric, Provado, and Decis applied to cotton terminals at 0.33, 0.50, 0.05, 0.047, 0.047, and 0.02 lb (AI)/acre. Mortality readings at 24h with treatments of Vydate and Orthene was significantly higher than observed with Centric, Provado, and Decis. At 48h mortality increased in all treatments with significantly higher mortality in Vydate, Orthene, and Regent treatments than observed in treatments with Provado and Decis. These data indicate that the field application of Orthene did not have any residual activity after 48h.
