Construction of A Reference Genetic Linkage Map For Watermelon. Cucurbitaceae Proceedings. pp 28-35. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Three types of populations have been used for development of linkage maps for watermelon. They include a BC1 population {[PI 296341-Fusarium resistant (FR) x New Hampshire Midget; NHM (Fusarium susceptible)] x NHM}, a testcross population {[Griffin 14113 (C. lanatus var. citroides) x NHM (Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus)] x PI 386015 (C. colocynthis)}, and an F2 population derived from an F1 hybrid of PI 296341-FR x NHM. Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and inter simple sequence repeats (ISSRs) were used for the construction of the backross and testcross populations, while amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers have been primarily used with the F2 population. The three maps are being merged into a reference linkage map that will be used for further studies and mapping of genes that control horticultural traits and disease and pest resistances in watermelon. |
