To date, F1, BC1 and BC2 progeny have been obtained with 19, 14 and 11 accessions, respectively. The progenies represent the five species O. barthii, O. glumaepatula, O. meridionalis, O. nivara and O. rufipogon. The parental lines and their progeny were bioassayed for sheath blight and blast resistance in greenhouse tests. Simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers linked to known blast resistance regions in rice were selected from the RiceGenes database. Parental DNAs were surveyed to identify informative markers. These SSRs are currently being used to follow the introgression of Oryza sp. DNA into the cultivated parents. The resistance identified in nthis study will be further characterized as additional molecular markers linked to known and novel disease resistance loci become available. |
