Technical Abstract: Stem rust, leaf rust, and stripe rust are among the most important diseases of wheat in the United States and most other countries of the world where wheat is grown. The great diversity of pathogenic races of each of these rust fungi makes breeding for resistance to rust a complex task. Nearly all of the known resistance genes are race-specific, so it is essential to develop wheat cultivars with combinations of resistance genes to provide protection against a wide spectrum of rust races. Scientists at the Cereal Disease Laboratory have searched the scientific literature to develop a data base of rust resistance genes reported in wheat cultivars. This information is presented in a searchable on-line data base consisting of rust resistance genes identified in 2035 cultivars or breeding lines of wheat with literature citations documenting the genetic data for each entry. Entries can be sorted by wheat type, such as winter or spring, hard dor soft, red or white. Pedigrees are available for more than half the entries.
