Research Project: Novel Detection, Sampling, Surveillance, and Epidemiological Modeling Tools to Mitigate Critical Diseases of Horticultural Crops

Location: Subtropical Plant Pathology Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-045-035-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2026
End Date: Jun 1, 2030

Objective:
Develop and validate novel modeling approaches for surveillance of, and sampling of plant diseases (particularly citrus greening), and gain insights into the epidemiology of plant diseases based on modeling strategies to aid disease management.

Approach:
Previous work with the Cooperator has demonstrated that statistical models can guide surveillance of plant diseases including citrus greening. Related methods have also been used to assist in developing sampling methodologies and to provide insights into the epidemiology of diseases, facilitating their management. These approaches will continue to be be refined, developed, extended, and validated to help manage citrus greening, other citrus diseases, and diseases of other crops.
