Research Project: Develop Software Module that Integrates a Canopy-Temperature-Based Stress Index into the WISE Tool

Location: Water Management and Systems Research

Project Number: 3012-13210-001-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2021
End Date: Sep 30, 2022

Objective:
The objective is to develop a software module that integrates a canopy-temperature-based crop water stress index (CWSI) into the WISE (Water Irrigation Scheduler for Efficient Application) tool, which is a free cloud-based tool for irrigation scheduling that is managed on the eRAMS platform through Colorado State University (CSU) (https://erams.com/catena/).

Approach:
Two methods of calculating crop water stress index (CWSI), empirical baseline and theoretical method, will be coded with Python programming language. The CWSI code will be structured as a proper Python package which will allow it to be published to the Python Package Index. As the CWSI model is ready, it will be connected with current Python version of the WISE code and tested. After the WISE-CWSI code is fully tested, it will be given to CSU eRAM team for possible inclusion into the live version of eRAMS/WISE.
