Location: Soil, Water & Air Resources Research
Project Number: 5030-11610-005-074-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2018
End Date: Aug 31, 2022
Objective:
Measure energy balance, evapotranspiration, and carbon dioxide exchange of forage in a silvopasture experiment to determine the effects of shading and wind reduction by the tree canopy on forage production.
Approach:
An eddy covariance flux station was established in February 2018 within a 19 yr-old agroforestry plantation. The flux station will allow measurement of the surface energy balance components of the forage canopy beneath the trees in this silvopasture experiment. The instrumentation will also enable measurement of forage evapotranspiration and carbon dioxide exchange. The cooperator will oversee operation and maintenance of the flux station and supporting measurements. They will also collect data and coordinate data analysis with the ARS PI.
