Research Project: Evaluating Key Juice Metabolites within the National Plant Germplasm System Grapevine Collections

Location: Plant Genetic Resources Unit (PGRU)

Project Number: 8060-21000-032-008-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2026

Objective:
Grapevine fruit have a wide range of important aroma and color compounds. To explore the metabolite diversity and differences between V. vinifera cultivars, we propose to explore the volatile and phenolic compound variation across a diverse set of V. vinifera and other Vitis spp. within the National Plant Germplasm System.

Approach:
Comparative metabolome analysis to determine interrelatedness among accessions and identify phenotypical and genetic gaps in the NPGS collections. Allow for critical traits to be evaluated and used as a tool of selection for breeders.
