Objective:
ARS and Mississippi State University will cooperate to accelerate and enhance the ongoing efforts to identify cotton plants with a viral disease, develop a fast and efficient diagnostic test for the virus and screen cotton lines for genetic resistance to the disease threat.
Approach:
ARS and Mississippi State University will cooperatively 1. Collect samples from observation plots, farmers’ fields or insect vectors and analyze for them for the presence of viruses. 2. Develop effective diagnostic tests for the viruses identified. 3. Screen cotton lines for resistance to any new viruses observed and develop resistant germplasm for cotton breeders.
