Infection of susceptible swine by the causative virus (PRRS virus) can result in reproductive failure and/or respiratory tract illness. In addition, it is believed by many that infection with PRRS virus greatly enhances the severity of other, concurrent diseases. In this report we briefly review selected aspects of our present knowledge about the epizootiology, diagnosis, and pathogenesis of PRRS with the objective of providing veterinary practitioners with some of the most effective tools currently available for their battle against this costly disease. |
