Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The USDA National Plant Germplasm System's maize collection includes 712 accessions with expired or expiring Plant Variety Protection (PVP), comprising 3.5% of the collection. Another 1680 accessions are expected to expire between 2024 and 2042. A median of 61 accessions and a mean of 88 accessions are expected to expire each year, but 431 accessions will expire in 2033 and 283 accessions will expire in 2034. In 2022, NCRPIS distributed 7,106 packets of PVP germplasm, 37% of the total distributions (19,025 packets) that year.
