Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This chapter will present an overview of the existing policies, regulations, and the production of viroid-free propagative plant material for sustainable agriculture. A general picture of how the spread of viroids can be prevented is depicted through specific examples of regulations and policies governing the introduction and distribution of perennial plant species, including citrus, apple, hops, and date palm trees. This chapter also provides general information on issues to consider when conducting research using plant materials and provides an example of how to apply for permits and phytosanitary certificates.
