They are known to feed on non-vascular and vascular plants and they demonstrate specificity at different taxonomic levels. In addition to living plants they feed on a wide diversity of organic forms: dried or decaying plant or animal matter, wax in bee nests, and some are predators of scale insects and aquatic scavengers in flowing water. They are external or internal feeders and have developed a broad array of concealed feeding strategies. |
