The volatilization of SPLAT® for use in pheromone mating disruption of cranberry pests [abstract]. Introductory Biology 152 Undergraduate Research. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The paraffin-based pheromone carrier, SPLAT, was tested for its volatilization rate. A multi-factorial study was initiated to examine the interactive effects of point-source size, shape, and duration. The study showed that tremendous amounts of the pheromone were released early, followed by a gradual, asymptotic decline thereafter. Importantly, the mean release rate of high surface area point-sources was similar to that of low surface area point-sources. This suggests that mechanically applied SPLAT will volatilize pheromones similarly as manually applied SPLAT. |
