Interpretive Summary: WinSRFR is a new generation of software for analyzing surface irrigation systems. The software integrates an unsteady simulation flow model with procedures for system evaluation, design, and operational analysis, and is the successor to the SRFR, BORDER, and BASIN programs. This article provides an overview of WinSRFR’s functionality and discusses various technical developments that have been incorporated into the software. The software targets mainly practical users, in particular NRCS irrigation specialists, extension agents, farm advisors, and consultants. WinSRFR will also serve as the foundation for future research and development in irrigation system hydraulic analysis and modeling.

Technical Abstract: WinSRFR is a new generation of software for analyzing surface irrigation systems. Founded on an unsteady flow hydraulic model, the software integrates event analysis, design, and operational analysis functionalities, in addition to typical simulation capabilities. This paper provides an overview of the software capabilities, interface, and architectural elements, and discusses various technical enhancements introduced in version 2.1.
