Cloning and characterization of biomass degrading enzymes. Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals, Denver, CO. Paper No. IB-41 (Abstract). Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Biomass is an attractive candidate to replace fossil fuels as a source of many of our fuel and chemical feedstock needs. However, in order to fully utilize the potential of biomass, it is critical that technologies be developed that will hydrolyze this renewable material more effectively. We are interested in producing enzymes that will efficiently hydrolyze biomass. Our approach is to discover new genes encoding biomass-degrading enzymes from various environmental samples. We will report on the progress of the gene cloning and biochemical characterizations of these new enzymes. |
