Technical Abstract: This chapter reviews the latest developments in the application of biotechnology to solve crop looses due to fungal disease. These include marker-assisted breeding, map-based cloning of genes, and development of transgenic plants. New areas of investigation which hold much promise are gene silencing, mutagenesis using T-DNA, transient expression of genes using viruses and particle bombardment, microarrays, and proteomics.
