Comparison of chlorophyll meter and fluorescence measurements to detect stresses in corn. Agronomy Abstracts. p. 247. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The objective of this study was to compare SPAD chlorophyll meter and chlorophyll fluorescence techniques as a means of detection of crop N and water stress. The work was conducted near Shelton, NE during the 1999 season. Treatments consisted of a factorial combination of 12 corn hybrids, 2 water levels (deficit and full irrigation) and 2 N levels (deficit and full N). Leaf chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence were determined with a SPAD chlorophyll meter and WALZ PAM-2000 fluorometer on a weekly basis, beginning at the V-6 growth stage. Destructive samples were taken at selected growth stages to determine crop biomass yield as well as nutrient concentrations (N, P, and K). Grain yield was also determined at maturity. Comparison of SPAD assessments with PAM-2000 readings as well as their associations with crop nutrient levels and grain yield will be presented. |
