Research Project: Improving Irrigation Practices, Irrigated Crop Production, and Water Quality in Southeast Missouri

Location: Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research

Project Number: 5070-13610-007-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 29, 2015
End Date: Sep 28, 2020

Objective:
1. Develop improved methods to document crop development and determine irrigation production functions for Mid-South crops; 2. develop procedures to determine optimal management zones for variable rate irrigation on variable soils; 3. determine surface water nutrient and pesticide content; and 4. determine arsenic content of rice grain, soil, and irrigation water.

Approach:
Scientists from ARS and Cooperator conduct crop production research in southeast Missouri relating to irrigated crop production and irrigation management. This research will include studies on agricultural experiment stations as well as on cooperator's farms. Project results will be documented in scientific and extension publications and will be presented at a variety of international, national, regional, and local meetings.
