Research Project: Applying genetic screening to IPM practices for insecticide resistance Year 2

Location: Tropical Pest Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Unit

Project Number: 2040-30400-003-021-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2026
End Date: Sep 29, 2027

Objective:
Objective 1. Determine the prevalence and geographic distribution of insecticide resistance alleles in wild Hawaii melon fly. Objective 2. Calculate changes in the frequency and distribution of resistance alleles across growers/fields with varying IPM practices. Objective 3. Determine genetic basis for insecticide resistance in Bactrocera dorsalis and Ceratitis capitata through genomic analysis and comparative analysis of insecticide-resistance-associated genes.

Approach:
Cooperator will use funds to hire a junior faculty researcher to perform genetic analysis on existing samples, collect new samples, perform genetic analysis on new samples, and present and publish research results.
