Objective:
Funds to be provided to the University of Hawaii to fund one full-time and one part time technician to assist with the preservation and characterization of the Tropical Fruit, Nut and Beverage germplasm and one post-doctoral research associate to assist with research on establishing coffee characterization and improving the health of the coffee collection.

Approach:
The technicians will assist with maintenance and characterization of the germplasm maintained on the University of Hawaii Waiakea research station and USDA ARS Hilo repository. The technicians will conduct research on new propagation and pruning methods to transfer select crops to the NPGS collection. The postdoc will assist with developing parameters to characterize phenotypic data in coffee and assist with research on endophytes and mycoparasites to improve coffee health.
