Objective:
Perform a counter-season winter nursery screening to determine allelopathic potential of rye genotypes and varieties. Deliver data prior to heading date of rye in northern nurseries.
Approach:
Cooperator will perform a counter-season winter nursery screening to determine which genotypes of rye are damaging to cash crops like alfalfa and vegetables, and which genotypes are helpful for weed control ahead of soybeans.
The data collected will inform selection of best genotypes in cereal rye nurseries in Wisconsin, New York, and Minnesota for forage use and weed control.
