Research Project: Improving Aspects of Irrigated Crop Production in Southeast Missouri

Location: Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research

Project Number: 5070-13610-009-004-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 2, 2025
End Date: Sep 1, 2027

Objective:
Evaluate and improve irrigated crop production and irrigation management in southeast Missouri.

Approach:
Scientists from ARS and Cooperator will conduct research in southeast Missouri to evaluate and improve irrigated crop production and irrigation management. This research will include studies on agricultural experiment stations as well as on cooperator's farms and will provide information for a range of Mid-south crops. Studies will include: 1) refining irrigation scheduling methods for furrow irrigated Mid-South corn and soybean production; (2) evaluating the effectiveness of various herbicides in irrigated cotton production, and (3) using sensors and AI technology to monitor water and nitrogen dynamics in cotton production for developing plant growth regulator management decisions.
