Objective:
Develop models based on spectral data to assess macronutrients and water content in lettuce.
Approach:
ARS will analyze plant composition (macronutrients and water content) on at least 1,000 plants grown under diverse fertilization and water treatment conditions. The same plants will be scanned with hyperspectral camera to capture a complete high-spatial-resolution image data across the visible to near infrared spectral range (400 – 1000 nm). Composition and spectral data will then be used to develop composition prediction models by applying machine learning algorithms. These models will be subsequently tested for their accuracy.
